This is a series of five books, edited by Prof. J.B. Alter, M.A. (Linguistics), a graduate of Harvard University and the University of Michigan. The books are intended for students of English to be used as a basic course or as supplementary material. Each book covers all the points of usage and grammar. It stresses on learning through constant practice. There are numerous revisionary practices. Answers are provided.

THE WAY TO GOOD ENGLISH

The Way to Good English is a rewritten and updated edition of Special English, which had sold over a quarter million copies.

Altogether there are 220 language units. Following the Language Units, there are several exercises, usually classified into Stage 1 or Stage 2. Stage 1 exercises range between elementary/intermediate levels; Stage 2 exercises between intermediate/advanced levels.

All the Language Units deal with functional usage - i.e. the correlation between structure and function. Emphasizing on the Language Units will help students to write good English, and to correctly express themselves in composition writing.

In particular The Way to Good English recognizes English as a living language, and incorporates what was not acceptable decades ago, is now acceptable in the current usage.
